French government Opposes Anti-homosexuality Bill in Uganda
France expresses its vivid concern over the bill being discussed by the Ugandan parliament, that aims at reinforcing the existing legislation against homosexuality, including in some cases with provisions for the death penalty. France reminds of its engagement towards the decriminalisation of homosexuality and discriminations on the ground of sexual orientation and gender identity. It reiterates equally its ferm opposition to death penalty, in any case and under any circumstance. In this context, we call upon the relevant Ugandan authorities to backtrack on the dispositions of the bill criminalising homosexuality, as well as on the application of the death penalty that stands in opposition with their international engagements. France fully supports the actions of the Swedish Presidency in these directions
